Earth Hour and TDSB - Milne Valley info too

Milne Valley is registered for Earth hour - it's official!!

In response to a flurry of excited interest among both elementary and secondary students, the Toronto District School Board is happy to support the global Earth Hour campaign to raise environmental awareness. Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on climate change.

Why does it matter? Why participate? A TDSB Earth Hour awareness campaign is a simple and powerful way for students to take part, and perhaps even become environmental ambassadors in their communities. The Earth Hour campaign creates hope by giving everyone a glimpse of what can be accomplished if we work together!
PART 1: Friday, March 28, 2008 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. “Preparation for Earth Hour” Toronto District School Board – all schools and offices Since the official Earth Hour occurs outside of school hours (Saturday, March 29 between 8 and 9 p.m.), the TDSB will observe its own Earth Hour in a “warm up” or (“cool down!”) in preparation for Earth Hour. Every school or office will decide on its own plan – for one hour can your school or office manage without lights? ...photocopy machines? ...coffee makers?... computers?...? ...?

PART 2: For Earth Hour itself, March 29, 8:00-9:00 p.m. Friday night of the Earth Hour weekend, caretakers will be asked to shut off all interior lights except for emergency lighting, and turn off exterior lighting starting 8 p.m.(as long as there is consensus at the local level that it would be safe to do so and the caretakers are able to adjust the timers). In addition, computer monitors will automatically be put to sleep and fan use will be minimized.
